WEB Cavan Sullivan: Youngest Player in Major League Soccer History

Breaking Records and Making History

WEB Cavan Sullivan, born September 28, 2009, has etched his name in the annals of soccer history as the youngest player ever to step onto a Major League Soccer field. On Wednesday night, the Philadelphia Union midfielder made his debut at just 14 years and 293 days old.

A Momentous Night for Sullivan

The historic moment came in the 85th minute of the Union's match against FC Cincinnati. With the game comfortably in Philadelphia's favor, Sullivan was subbed in by manager Jim Curtin. The crowd erupted in thunderous applause as the young star entered the pitch, replacing his older brother, Quinn. Just moments earlier, Quinn had scored a goal to extend the Union's lead to 5-1.

Sullivan's debut further cements the Union's reputation as a breeding ground for young talent. In 2024, Sullivan will become the second-youngest player to ever start a game in Major League Soccer. The youngest remains Freddy Adu, who debuted for D.C. United at 14 years and 306 days in 2004.
