Lou Dobbs Settlement

Fox News Settles Defamation Lawsuit with Venezuelan Businessman

Subheadline: Lawsuit Stemmed from Allegations Linking Khalil to "Dominion Voting Rigging"

Settlement Reached Following Lou Dobbs's 2020 Election Accusations

A settlement has been reached in a defamation lawsuit filed by a Venezuelan businessman against Fox News and former host Lou Dobbs. The lawsuit alleged that Dobbs defamed Majed Khalil by falsely linking him to election rigging in the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

In the lawsuit, filed in 2021, Khalil alleged that Dobbs and former Trump attorney Sidney Powell falsely named him as a key player in a supposed effort to rig the election in favor of President Trump. Khalil argued that these statements caused him significant harm, including damage to his reputation and loss of business opportunities.

The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. However, the settlement agreement includes a retraction from Fox News of the defamatory statements made by Dobbs. Fox News also apologized to Khalil for the damage caused by the broadcasts.

The settlement brings an end to a high-profile legal battle that has drawn attention to the issue of media responsibility in the spread of false information.
